The perfect multi-day trip for the independent traveller and those who want a complete Abel Tasman experience.

On day one joins the Anchorage Escape guided kayak trip but instead of returning on the water taxi you will spend the night in at Anchorage campsite. On day two you will walk north along the Coastal Track to Onetahuti (Big Tonga) through some of the Parks most stunning sights.

Take it your own pace but don’t miss your water taxi home and its spin past the seal colony in Tonga Island Marine Reserve.

Head straight to the Heart of the Abel Tasman. 

On day one water taxi from Marahau north to Onetahuti Beach and join our Magical Marine Reserve kayak tour. Spend the day paddling through the Tonga Island Marine reserve, past the lagoons and golden sands and into Anchorage where you will be accommodated on the Aqua Packers House Boat . Linen is provided and you BBQ dinner is cooked, but don’t forget the beer!.  

Then on day 2 walk the beautiful coastal track unguided at your own pace from Anchorage back to Marahau, taking in the numerous golden sand beaches that dominate the southern Abel Tasman.

Water taxi into the marine reserve, Onetahuti and where we pack the kayaks before you spend two days paddling with the prevailing wind back to Marahau combining guided and freedom kayaking. 

Day one is spent on our Magical Marine Reserve kayak tour paddling through the Tonga Island Marine reserve, past the lagoons and golden sands and into Anchorage 

On day two with your newly gained kayak skills and experience you can take you time cruising unguided south around Pitt Head, past the granite headlands of the 'Mad Mile' and into the sheltered Astrolabe Roadstead with its numerous golden beaches, bays and the two Astrolabe Islands.  Finish with a last paddle across Sandy Bay and home to Marahau.

Ideal for those of you keen to do it on your own but don’t have the experience or the confidence but you will need a friend for this trip too.

On day one of your two day experience you will be join in the Anchorage Escape guided kayak trip and follow the coast from Marahau to Anchorage.

Once at Anchorage you can relax and set up your tent for the night. On day two with your newly gained kayak skills and experience you can take you time cruising unguided up the coast, into the lagoons and rives and through the Tonga Island Marine Reserve to meet you water taxi home to Marahau.

If you want to really relax, not have to think on your holiday and just sit back and enjoy then the Coastal Cruiser is for you my friend.

This fully guided, fully catered two day Abel Tasman kayak experience is the easiest way to see the National Park, apart from paddling, we do all the work for you!

Day one is spent following coast from Marahau to Anchorage enjoying island life and calm clear water. Once at Anchorage you will be accommodated on the Aqua Packers House Boat where you linen is provided and you BBQ dinner is cooked, but don’t forget the beer!

On day two after breakfast on the House Boat the water taxi will swing by and pick you up, dropping you at Onetahuti (Big Tonga) to spend the day paddling through the Tonga Island Marine reserve, past the lagoons and golden sand to Anchorage where the water taxi will again sweep you up and return you safe and sound to Marahau.

Here’s a three day trip with a bit of everything the Abel Tasman coast line can offer. Discovery the full length of the Park with a combination of guided kayaking, freedom kayaking and hiking.

On day one join the Anchorage Escape guided kayak trip from Marahau to Anchorage. After a night of camping in Anchorage freedom kayak up the coast through the Tonga Island Marine Reserve to Onetahuti the point where your Kayaks will be picked up and you will camp for the night.

On day three hike north through rain forest and along golden beaches to Totaranui to meet the Water taxi which will bring you back to Marahau.

Spend day two exploring the Islands, wildlife, lagoons and rivers of the stunning centre of the park. And finally cruise home on day three with a little help from the sea breeze back to Marahau where we will meet you on the beach in the afternoon.

Start your trip with a water taxi cruise through to Totaranui in the northern Abel Tasman and then spend the day freedom walking the peaceful coastline south through to Onetahuti Beach campsite where you will spend the night. 

On day two join our Magical Marine Reserve kayak tour exploring the amazing coastline between Onetahuti and Anchorage, the section affectionately known as the 'Heart of the Park'.  Overnight in Anchorage campsite and then on day three walk unguided at your own pace from Anchorage back to Marahau stopping off at the numerous golden sand beaches that dominate the southern Abel Tasman.

What to Know



MSK Guides


What can I say? We have a pretty old school approach here that is all about enjoyment.  Our guides are all Kiwis, locals with a real passion for our National Park.  We are all experienced instructors who pride ourselves in making your experience of the Abel Tasman genuine, unique and truly memorable.   




Safety


At the start of every MSK trip we give you a quick introduction to kayaking and how to make the best of your trip with us (Its called a safety briefing and it takes about 30 minutes). We also pride ourselves in providing you with the latest, specialised sea kayaking equipment to ensure your safety and comfort throughout your Abel Tasman experience.




Food

Refer to each trip for details on what food is provided.

PARKLIFE guided / freedom trips we provide lunch, snacks and refreshments on the first day.  Dinner plus the remainder of the trip is self catered (see our PREPARATION page for what foods we recommend).

FREEDOM tours are un-catered.
